Bangkok, capital city of Thailand

Bangkok may be the capital of Thailand and the largest city in the united states. But it is typically only called Bangkok in English. In Thai, it is called Krung Thep Maka Nakhon, or simply Krung Thep.

Its full name is "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit."

It will be the only cosmopolitan city in a country of small towns and villages and it is Thailand’s cultural and commercial centre.

Bangkok can be found on the delta with the Chao Phraya River , about 25 miles in the Gulf of Thailand .

It was formerly divided into two municipalities-Krung Thep for the east bank and Thon Buri about the west-connected by a few bridges.

In 1971 the two were united as a city-province which has a single municipal government. In 1972 the city along with the two surrounding provinces were merged into one province, called Krung Thep Maha Nakhon (Bangkok Metropolis ).

The metropolis is often a bustling, crowded city, with temples, factories, shops, and homes juxtaposed along its roads and canals. It is also a significant tourist destination, famous for bountiful cultural attractions as well as a nightlife which includes a flourishing sex trade.
